Our new DIY Diva, Jessica, made this beautiful tray for me with just a few materials and very little time.

It’s perfect for a coffee table or even your dining table.

Want to make one, too?

Here’s how to do it!

DIY Tray-Making Process

Purchase a round piece of sanded wood at your favorite hardware store, in the size you prefer.

Sand it, even if it’s already pre-sanded.

Purchase and use Jacobean stain and rub it in with paper towels. Simple!

Add two coats of matte polyurethane, using a foam brush. Wait 12 hours between coats for thorough drying.

Next, it’s time for handle placement. I chose handles from Hobby Lobby that looked shabby chic. To place them, mark with a Sharpie where you want your handle holes to be located. Drill the holes.

(Helpful Hint: If you don’t have the right size drill bit, drape a towel over the handle and use a hammer!)

Take a matching piece of wood and lay it underneath, lining it up perfectly. Use 1 inch screws to ensure that the tray sits perfectly flat.

Another option is to use felt and glue it.

Total cost: About $50, for everything. If you already have stain or poly, the price plummets.

Total time spent: About an hour, not counting the drying time.

Make this and you’re guaranteed to get questions about where you bought such a gorgeous tray!
