Our guest writer, Jessica Day, married on September 30, 2006. She shares her thoughts on how to get the wedding you want – – without going crazy or spending big bucks.

My wedding day was one of the best days of my life, but I’d imagine most women would say the same thing. I have been to many weddings over the years. Some have been large events, and others have been intimate affairs. What you and your guests will always remember most from your wedding is not how elaborate your wedding was, but how much fun you had with the people who came to support you on your big day. You don’t have to break the bank to have a memorable wedding and reception.

The most important point would be to set a budget and stick to it. If you can’t afford a band for the reception, a DJ is just as much fun. Can’t hire a string quarter for the ceremony? Ask a friend who can carry a tune to sing and another to play acoustic guitar for free. They will appreciate being included, and you will remember that more fondly

To save money, use seasonal flowers for your bouquets or order flowers ahead from your local Sam’s Club or BJs and put them together with your bridesmaids the night before. Want a designer dress without the designer price tag? You can purchase gently worn or sample dresses online or go to stores that sell previous seasons and sample dresses.

Be creative and open to all ideas. You don’t want to add stress to your marriage at the very start by going over budget and carrying massive debt from your wedding. Just relax and have fun on your big day!
