Pray Without Ceasing [Suggestions]

blur-1867402_960_720

The Bible says we are to pray without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 English Standard Version (ESV)

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (via biblegateway.com)

Sounds difficult, right?

It actually is far easier than you think.

Pray

As you already know, Christians are called to pray. It’s for our own benefit, because God obviously knows what we are going to pray before we pray.

The question becomes, “How do I do that?”

 Pray Without Ceasing:

Pray for family and close friends.

Pray for your coworkers.

Pray for those who are unsaved.

Pray for those who serve our country: Armed Forces personnel, police, firefighters, EMTs, doctors, nurses, other medical personnel, teachers, and politicians.

Pray for your church: pastors, leaders, the entire congregation, and special cases you know.

Pray for our country.

Pray for those combatting drug/alcohol addiction, terminal illnesses, or extended recovery from illness.

Pray for those along your routes to work or school.

Pray Without Ceasing

Pray for enlightenment for what you should do to be Christ’s hands and feet.

Pray in thanksgiving for the blessings you have: family, friends, health, freedom, salvation, food, water, opportunities, safety, job, income, etc.

Pray for your enemies, those who’ve hurt you.

Pray for troubles you encounter during the day.

Other Advice:

The same as any skill, the more you do it, the easier it becomes to continue doing it.

It also becomes easier to add more detail into the prayers.

Remember, though, that we can pray anytime, anywhere, even in the middle of a conversation, our work day, or while cleaning the house!

It’s not necessary to sit, with hands folded, and eyes closed.

When you open your mind to the possibilities, they become endless.

Let me know your suggestions and experiences with praying this way. I’d love to hear them!

  • I have been praying for people who are featured on the FB news feed I get – young people who messed up big time, children who have been molested, people who are injured in accidents, etc. Sometimes the news make me so sad, and I know the Lord cares for each of us, but sometimes it seems we wouldn’t think to pray for the criminals to repent or heal or help their victims, etc.

  • You’re so right Emily. I often find myself just saying a short prayer while waiting for the water to boil or walking outside to greet our furr babies. There are so many moments in a day to be thankful for

  • God is always with us. He knows our needs and the needs of others before we ever ask…so why are we to “pray without ceasing”? Because He longs to bless us and others. He wants us to cast all our cares on Him, trusting He has the power to do all things according to His will. It is through faith our prayers reach His ears and our Father in Heaven then opens the floodgates of His mighty power to do more than we could ever hope for or imagine.
When we learn to trust and pray without ceasing, our personal relationship with our Father in Heaven becomes deep and our faith in Him becomes mighty and then praying without ceasing becomes our very way of life as we see prayers answered and then live in awe at His power to accomplish all things according to His will. If you have ever doubted…begin praying! Ask God to help you believe and then listen for Him to speak to your heart while watching for answers, continue to pray and listen and watch…He is always faithful!
