Car Buying Tip [Save Thousands]

I have a golden car buying tip for you, that could potentially save you thousands.

I’ve been a car enthusiast since I was in elementary school. It’s true!

My best friend lived around the corner from me, and her street was pretty heavily traveled. We would sit on her front porch and watch the cars go by.

Periodically, I would say, “Oh, I like that one.” The game became to find out the names of each one I liked.

If you were to meet me now, I could tell you the make and model of just about any car on the road, even if I don’t like them necessarily.

Car Buying Tip:

Here’s the thing, though. I have a very short list of cars I would actually purchase.

One vehicle I really like is the redesigned Chrysler Pacifica Minivan.

If you know cars, you remember that the Pacifica used to be a crossover, resembling a fat station wagon.

Now, it’s sleek and spacious, not to mention the best-looking minivan on the road today. It’s also received numerous awards and car magazine endorsements.

I rented it today for the weekend. Why?

I want an extended test drive to decide whether I want to purchase it.

Think about it. A normal test drive is about 15 minutes or less.

When tens of thousands of dollars are on the line, I want to make sure I have more time to decide if I would actually be satisfied with the vehicle or not.

When I talked with the car rental rep, he smiled and said, “What a great idea. Never thought of it.”

That’s when the idea for this post was born!

A car rental is not a cheap proposition, either, so I recommend this method if and only if you are seriously considering a purchase.

If it’s a vehicle you like, a test drive (or two) would suffice.

Then, if your local car rental carries the vehicle, you could rent it if you decide you might actually purchase the car.

This car buying tip could be a game-changer, if you really can’t live with the vehicle you thought you couldn’t live without.

I’m lovin’ the Pacifica, so much so that when I texted my husband, he sent back the cat crying emoji!

Not to mention several bills behind it!

  • Thanks for some great information. I’m currently carless and I’ll probably stay that way for a while. I had a similar experience when someone backed into my vehicle. I ended up renting a nice little Toyota Camry because my damaged vehicle had to be in the shop. That experience taught me that someday – I wanted to be the owner of a Toyota Camry. I had a Camry for a few years after that.

    Have a great day.

  • Great tip! My AC keeps going out and we are considering buy a new to us minivan. Buying a year or two older car can save thousands. Many dealers will let you take a car for a weekend if you are serious about buying it.
