Today, I’d like to share with you the secret to better baked potatoes. First, though, the backstory…

During my teaching career, I’ve been privileged to know many wonderful people, including faculty members, staff, and students.

Truth be told, I’ve learned quite a bit from my students.

One of the schools where I taught had a culinary arts program, where students could train to become chefs.

In class, I mentioned my love of baked potatoes that restaurants serve and how much better they are than what I could make.

Do you know what I mean?

I thought so.

Imagine my surprise when one of my culinary students told me he would share the secret of why they were so much better.

I’d love to share that secret with you!

The Secret To Better Baked Potatoes:

Here it is: Prior to baking the potatoes, some restaurants boil them first.

That’s right.

Simply fill a pan with water and bring to a boil. Add in the potatoes.

Boil for about 15-20 minutes, depending on the size of the potatoes and how many you have in the pan.

Then, remove and douse with oil. You know that I’m a lover of olive oil, so that’s what I use.

My guess is that most restaurants would use vegetable oil.

Sprinkle with salt and wrap in foil.

Bake at 375 degrees for 45-60 minutes, again depending on the size of the potatoes.

I believe you’ll agree that this method produces more flavorful baked potatoes, similar to those served in restaurants.

Try it and see if you don’t agree!
